Vacation Success

Am I working on a blog post on vacation? Yes.

Am I taking my own advice? No.

BUT I am really jazzed about this entrepreneurial path I have recently embarked upon so I want to stay true to my commitment - not only to my readers but to myself as well.

And in all honesty, this break has started to get the creative juices flowing so it’s a great time to capitalize on the good momentum.

Starting on Friday, I landed in Charleston, South Carolina and have been eating the best seafood, spending my mornings biking the bay and my hardest choice of the day has been if I should read at the beach or at the pool.

Bragging aside, let’s get down to business. Business that involves planning for vacation of course.

The day before I went on vacation, a friend of mine shared the HBR article

How to Minimize Stress Before, During, and After Your Vacation”. Talk about timely.

So today, instead of just hitting “share” on LinkedIn or social media, I wanted to decompose what I read, and share the highlights with you.

The takeaway?

+Plan accordingly - Can you decipher what is urgent to work on before you leave and what can be put on the back burner?

+Tell everyone!! - Make sure your clients, your managers, and your colleagues know the dates you will be gone and know that you will not be responding (or slow to respond)

+OOO - we have already touched on this point on my blog post last week

+Live in the moment (the article discusses setting an intention, unplugging, and to “immerse”) - Or what I call “be present”

+And finally, when you are back and ready to tackle the workload - make a plan of attack

As a side note, we went boating along the intercostal right outside of Charleston and the comments we kept making were “how cool is this” and “can you believe we are experiencing this?”

While working hard gives us the opportunities to experience new adventures, being present will fully allow you to appreciate the why behind your hard work.

End rant. Back to sipping frosé on vacay.
