Job Seeker Communication Templates

This blog post is for everyone who is working hard trying to find a new job and navigating this challenging job market.

As someone who has recently been an active candidate on the market, I know how HARD it is doing all the things to get hired. The number of applications you need to submit, the cover letters, the multiple rounds of interviews, following up with recruiters, getting rejected. The list goes on and on…

It is a COMPETITIVE market out here. There are so many “rules” you need to follow as a job seeker. Rules such as, needing to follow up th recruiter or the hiring manager after you submit an application, tailoring your resume to each position you apply to, sending thank you notes after interviews, and even networking within the organization to get your job in the door before you even secure an interview.

We’ve talked about how to navigate the job market but what about when you’re already in the middle of an interview process and need help communicating throughout each step of the process?

Below are some communication templates you can use as a job seeker ⬇️

When you need to message a recruiter or hiring manager after submitting an application -

“Hi xx! I just applied for ABC role you are hiring for. My goal is to chat more about how I could be an asset to your team if you think my candidacy warrants a further conversation!”

When you need to send a thank you email after an interview -

Subject line - thank you for your time yesterday!

Body - “Before the week gets away from me, thank you both for your time and thoughtfulness yesterday! It was really helpful to learn more about how you two work together and how I would integrate into the team to support your efforts. My biggest takeaway was implementation/onboarding playbooks along with providing a feedback loop and I already have some ideas ruminating. Thank you again!”

When you need to check in on the status of your candidacy -

Subject: Status update on candidacy?

Body: “Hey xx, I'm sure you are busy so I appreciate your time in advance. I'm wondering if you have an update on next steps or a potential timeline for this position?

I'm currently in two other interview processes but want to prioritize this one.

Thanks for your insight!”

With all the applications you are submitting, cover letters you are writing, and interviews you are preparing for, I hope these communication templates make the job search process a tad easier by taking one thing off your plate.

What other templates do you need help with as a job seeker?
