A Monday Well Spent at Six Flags

I’ve talked about this before... and I’ll continue to talk about it because it’s so important.

The world we work in is changing. Gone are the days where the women are homemakers and men spend 10+ hours a day clocking in to clocking out to provide for their families.

The workforce is more dynamic. Jobs are changing. Technology is growing. Women are kicking ass.

So the working world has to change with it.

When we talk about work life balance - yes it is being able to leave at 3:30 to go watch your kids soccer game. And it’s being able to come in no questions asked at 10am because you met with your therapist at 8am.

But it is also about integrating life into the workplace.

It is about creating connections with your colleagues - outside of the immediate project you are working on and outside of the demand of revenue generating tasks.

Work (and especially Monday's) can put people in some baaaad moods (ya feel me???) so wouldn’t it be nice to get to know your coworkers in an atmosphere outside of work? And no - I’m not just talking about drinks after work.

Last week my manager took our team out of the office on Monday (Gasp -- I know -- a Monday spent out of the office NOT working?! What a concept) and we spent it getting our brains scrambled on roller coasters at Six Flags.

Hell. Yes.

Sometimes it is nice to be appreciated as a human outside of what you produce at work. Who knew some of the people I work with are afraid of roller coasters? Or that my manager is an adrenaline junky (had her hands up on EVERY ride haha!).

Compensation gives us the ability to sustain a life. Recognition and relationship building give us a reason to come into work.
